Sharing Your Passion

August 28th, 2007 · No Comments

Over the past 9 years, I’ve been doing ‘my thing’, that is, working with businesses to grow, increase sales, profits and for entrepreneurs to have a family life they love. While my clients and I have created many good, great and stunning results, during the last 9 years, it hasn’t been totally smooth sailing for me in my business. In less than 2 years of starting the company, my husband of 6 years and I divorced. By the 4th year in business I had massive credit card debt by investing in my education and the business and in the 6th year of business, I relocated the head office out of Sydney, NSW to Bendigo in regional Australia to be closer to my very sick mother. I knew nothing about and no-one in Bendigo, we had no clients there, I had no friends and had to start from scratch to build a local base. So the last 9 years for me personally has been an exciting adventure with lots of crisis, change and challenge. So why am I sharing all of this with you?

Well, what I have come to see, looking back, is that there have been people watching me go through all of this. They have seen and experienced me, NEVER loose my passion of working with businesses and families to make a difference even when things for me were really tough and it looked like I was close to giving up or going broke. They have been quietly inspired by my actions, character, values, commitment and persistence. I realised that during the really hard times, while my life was in a mess, I still told them about my clients’ success, the vision and dreams I had and the difference I made and they loved to hear the stories.

So, here I am 9 years later and I was in Brisbane yesterday speaking and afterwards caught up with my long time friend Kathy Ashe who lives in Brisbane for a coffee. Jen, she said, I want a Direct Incite business card. I don’t want to start up my own business I want to do Direct Incite here in Queensland. I was surprised and delighted. We talked more and I got inspired. I hopped on the plane to come back to Melbourne and drive to Bendigo, and got to thinking. I started to contact more people that [had watched me in my business and I got on the phone – I asked a few people if they wanted to get on board with me and hey presto, they had been waiting for me to ask! Direct Incite now has national representation of passionate people that ‘get’ what this company is about. I am moved by this and can see, the dreams I’ve had for so long are going to come into reality.

So I have 3 questions for you…

  1. What are you passionate about and won’t give up on – no matter what happens?
  2. Who has been watching you be passionate about that?
  3. What’s stopping you from inviting them to share and co-create the vision and dream with you?

Take action – have a courageous conversation this week – you’ll grow and so will your results !

Feel the Love in all you do

August 14th, 2007 · No Comments

How can you possibly feel the love in all you do when you have a task that is something you don’t want to do or do not enjoy. For everyone these non-enjoyable actions vary greatly. For example – going to work, reporting to the boss, cleaning the house, paying bills, taking medicine, talking to an angry people, working with people that don’t understand you, doing your job, driving long distances, negotiating, public speaking, exercise, eating healthy food, and for some - taking holidays !

Questions for you …

  • What is the task/action in your work/life you don’t love to do?
  • How long has that been going on for you?
  • What has been the cost to you and the people around you for you not taking action?
  • What would life be like if you did love this task/action in your work/life?

There is an easy way to get yourself to do something you don’t want to do. It’s all about getting yourself out of the way! Here’s how you can be a LOVER of life in 5 easy steps.

  1. List – Create 10 reasons why you don’t want to do it and 10 benefits if you did it
  2. Other People – Create a list of 20 people that would benefit if you did it and describe how they would benefit
  3. Vision – Imagine a future where those 20 people and you are living with all the benefits of doing the task
  4. Energise – Anchor that feeling in your body and/or with a picture on the wall to remind you of that new future.
  5. Regain – Take control of yourself and take action to create the future you want.

Loving life, and everything you do is a CHOICE and a matter of perspective. We sometimes just need to look bigger than ourselves to see a perspective where we can see where and how there is love and joy in doing what needs to be done !
