About Jen - the Real, the Raw and the Results !
I founded my company Direct Incite in 1999 with my husband Andy. I was 29 and we had been married for 5 years. We got inspired by a number of personal development books and programs and together formed a company structure. Andy consulted in his area of expertise – engineering and I consulted in mine under the separate business name – Direct Incite.
Within the first 12 months of being in business, sales were going great and I needed help. Andy came to work with me in Direct Incite on a trial basis and that’s when everything changed. At the end of 3 months, Andy quit and I fired him at the same time. Suffice to say, it didn’t work. We said and did things that also impacted our marriage and in 2001, we separated, then divorced.
Like many entrepreneurs, I found this experience personally devastating and as a result I went out of control (emotionally & financially). I lost my confidence and trust in myself and as a result the company almost collapsed.
What kept me going and committed to turning the company around was my clients and colleagues in Direct Incite. The results my clients were achieving were totally inspiring. I started to see through my own example, that the psychology of a SME business owner makes all the difference in the world. Some skills and strategy helps a lot too!
